Long Island Medium’s visit to Detroit Entertaining and Emotional

A capacity crowd of Theresa Caputo fans gathered at the Sound Board at MotorCity Casino and Hotel Sunday afternoon. Caputo is the star of TLC’s “Long Island Medium,” which beings its fourth season this month. The show follows her life as a wife, mother and a psychic medium who speaks to the dead.

The reality star came on stage just after 2 p.m. and spoke for a few minutes about the readings that would follow and assured audience members that even if she doesn’t read them or have any messages for them, that they should still look for meaning in what she says to other people. She also strongly encouraged people not to shout out to her when she came into the audience, a requested which wasn’t always heeded during the two hour show.

Two cameras followed Caputo around the venue as she talked to audience members, and broadcasted the feed on a big screen on stage. She read about 30 people. The audience was hanging on her every word, and many tears, gasps and laughs were heard from the crowd throughout the show.

She had simple messages for many of the folks she read, like a woman who had cared for her husband before he died. Caputo told her that her husband wanted to thank her for that, and he wanted her to know she was the love of his life. Other readings were more complicated. Several audience members talked about children that had passed away, and one woman spoke about her aunt who was murdered by her husband. Theresa said her aunt came through to her and wanted her niece to know that she wasn’t afraid when she was killed and that she shouldn’t bother getting an apology out of the aunt’s husband who is in jail. Many of the exchanges were emotional (the show should’ve been sponsored by Kleenex), but Caputo’s good sense of humor and down-to-earth persona lightened the mood when things got too intense.

If you enjoy watching “Long Island Medium,” Caputo’s live show is a real treat. Even if you weren’t a believer or were on the fence, the event still made for an interesting and entertaining afternoon.
